The Canadian Foundation for Ukrainian Studies was created in 1975 on the initiative of associates of the Ukrainian Canadian Professional and Business Federation.

The Canadian Foundation for Ukrainian Studies is chartered under Canadian law as a non-profit organization. Its activities are motivated by a conviction that university-level Ukrainian Studies are essential for the healthy development of the Ukrainian community in Canada. The complete and objective information needed by the community to understand and appreciate its own roots can only be developed through rigorous and fundamental work on the university level. Knowledge of Ukraine's historical and cultural development is also vital to the development of sound relations with Ukraine in the post-Soviet era.
